GREETINGS TO THE PEOPLE OF LYNN!

My name is Michael López, and I am proud to be the drama teacher at Lynn English High School. I am especially excited to be in a community of hard-working, culturally diverse people and students who are representative of a national and world view. I do speak a little Spanish, and it is my intention to make the department a place where all students are welcome, regardless of language or nationality.

As an artist and a theater educator, I can tell you that there is nothing more important for our young people to experience than the performing arts and especially theater. They are not just having fun putting on a show. They are learning to think and problem solve creatively, a skill that will serve them well even if they never step foot on a stage again. They are also learning to work collaboratively, as a team (just like athletics). And maybe most importantly, they are learning empathy: the ability to see things from another person’s point of view. The ability to empathize teaches kindness, understanding, diplomacy and acceptance. In a world filled with violence and hatred, what could be more valuable?

I am looking forward to a great school year, and I have exciting things planned for the Lynn English High School stage. Thank you in advance for your support of our program, and I’ll see you in the theater!

SALUDOS A LA GENTE DE LYNN!

Mi nombre es Miguel López, y estoy orgulloso de ser el profesór de teatro en Lynn Inglés Secundaria. Así que me siento especialmente emocionado de estar en una comunidád de trabajadores, culturalmente diversas personas y estudiantes que son representativos de una visión nacionál y mundiál. Hago hablar un poco de español, y es mi intención hacer el departamento un lugar donde todos los estudiantes son bienvenidos, sin importar el idioma o nacionalidad.

Como artista y educador de teatro, te puedo decir que no hay nada más importante para nuestros jóvenes experimenten de las artes escénicas y especialmente el teatro. No sólo están divirtiendo hacer un espectáculo. Están aprendiendo a pensar y resolver problemas de manera creativa, una habilidad que les servirá incluso si nunca poner un pie en un escenario nuevo. También están aprendiendo a trabajar en equipo, como un equipo (como atletismo). Y tal vez lo más importante, que están aprendiendo la empatía: la capacidád de ver las cosas desde el punto de vista de otra persona. La capacidád de empatizar enseña la bondad, la comprensión, la diplomacia y la aceptación. En un mundo lleno de violencia y odio, lo que podría ser más valioso?

Tengo muchas ganas de tener un gran año escolar, y tengo cosas emocionantes planeadas para la fase de Lynn Inglés Secundaria. Gracias de antemano por su apoyo a nuestro programa, y nos vemos en el teatro!
