Director’s Statement

The show you are watching was completely written by the students. As the director I provided a framework, but the dialogue, the actions, the story ideas were all theirs. This is a very personal work, with many of the details of the show coming from direct experiences of the participants. The arts are a very important part of these students’ lives, and a very important part of our school. We are fortunate to have a district that values the arts enough to offer theater arts classes in their curriculum, and we are also fortunately expanding what the district has to offer. We have a way to go before we enjoy the visibility and popularity of athletics or music. But we are working hard on this.

When it was discovered that the rigging system in our theater had been removed for safety reasons, many of the returning drama students dropped the program. But we were fortunate to have a few die-hard members return and a group of enthusiastic and dedicated freshmen join us for this show. We have created a piece that works around the missing rigging system and the district is working hard to get our theater back to working condition. But until then, the show must go on!!

El programa que estás viendo fue escrito íntegramente por los estudiantes. Como director, proporcioné un marco, pero el diálogo, las acciones, las ideas de la historia eran todas de ellos. Este es un trabajo muy personal, con muchos de los detalles del espectáculo provenientes de experiencias directas de los participantes. Las artes son una parte muy importante de la vida de estos estudiantes y una parte muy importante de nuestra escuela. Somos afortunados de tener un distrito que valora las artes lo suficiente como para ofrecer clases de artes teatrales en su plan de estudios y, afortunadamente, también estamos ampliando lo que el distrito tiene para ofrecer. Nos queda mucho camino por recorrer antes de disfrutar de la visibilidad y popularidad del atletismo o la música. Pero estamos trabajando duro en esto.

Cuando se descubrió que el sistema de montaje de nuestro teatro había sido retirado por razones de seguridad, muchos de los estudiantes de teatro que regresaron abandonaron el programa. Pero tuvimos la suerte de que algunos miembros acérrimos regresaron y un grupo de estudiantes de primer año entusiastas y dedicados se unieron a nosotros para este espectáculo. Hemos creado una pieza que soluciona el sistema de montaje faltante y el distrito está trabajando arduamente para que nuestro teatro vuelva a funcionar. ¡¡Pero hasta entonces, el espectáculo debe continuar!!
